Lots of Farrells attended the White School in Huron Township

September 10, 2023

S.S. No. 2, the White School, located on Concession 12, Huron Township, was attended by many members of the Farrell family. The first school on this concession had been built on the lot across the road in about 1857.

The number S.S. No. 2 suggests that it was the second school organized in the township, after S.S. No. 1 Lurgan at the foot of Concession 4.

Since this new frame building, built in 1898 on the north side of the road, was painted white, it was soon known as the White School. You can read more of its story in “A History of Huron and its Hub Ripley," pages 62-62.

Thanks to Lynn Farrell, we have some notes about these pupils, eight of whom were cousins, descendants of the Pollock siblings: Edward and his sister, Letitia Pollock Osborne. Perhaps there are more connections that have not come to light yet.
