Some late October birthdays were celebrated last week. Happy Belated Birthday to Lisa Courtney, Janice Miller, Jeff Knapp, Charlie Harris, Gerard Gillespie, Samantha Kooiman, Christine Heinisch and Diane Orr! Hope you had lots of cake and enjoyed celebrating with your family!
Well, wasn't that a surprise to wake up to a blanket of white, Wednesday morning? Hope everyone stayed safe when travelling - that first snow is always a challenge when driving.
It was fun to see all the youngsters' costumes on Halloween. Thanks, parents, for your creativity.
We do hope all our folks who are having medical issues, are soon back up and running, to catch all the great events that are coming up! Remembrance Day services will be taking place this week. The Ripley-Huron Legion, Branch 440, will be joining the service at St. Andrew's United Church in Ripley, Sunday, Nov. 5.
St. Andrew's United Church is hosting a fund-raising music concert, Nov. 19, from 2-3:15 p.m., with St. Andrew's Sisters and friends. Cash donations received at the door will go to support the Kincardine and Area Food Bank. Come join us for a fun afternoon with audience sing-a-longs, treats and coffee!
The Ripley Lions are receiving donations of cash and gift cards for the Ripley and District Christmas Hamper program. If you would like to contribute or have questions, contact John at 519-955-9884.
PURPLE GROVE WOMEN’S INSTITUTE AT DISTRICT RALLY
The Bruce County District Women's Institute held its 66th annual rally meeting in Port Elgin, Oct. 26. The Purple Grove Women's Institute had seven delegates attend: Bren de Leeuw, Mary Anne Kukoly, Deanna Scott, Marilyn Reid, Bonnie Boyle, Janet Nixon and Betty Johnson. The theme this year was "Finding your Rhythm" and our musical talents were put to the test for a bit in the morning!
We were absolutely thrilled to have Deborah Pope, MSW, retired senior administrator in child protection, deliver a presentation on "One Step at a Time," for our afternoon program! It was a fabulous, thought-provoking session in which she challenged us to live and not just exist in life.
She shared her thoughts on finding rhythm and balance and how life changes as we age and that we need to adjust along the way. She referred to examples of her experiences of living her life to the fullest through kayaking and hiking.
Pope completed the Bruce Trail awhile ago and last year, hiked the West Coast Trail - the most rugged and challenging trail in Canada! She highlighted thoughts on being inspired, on adversity, the complexities of the trail, itself, having tenacity, immersing oneself in the environment and the sheer wonder of waking up to the beauty of living!
The rally concluded with a silent auction, with more than $400 raised in support of local hospices.
