New Kincardine doctor to take over current physician’s practice in February
Dr. Owen Montpellier (above with his family) will be taking over the family practice of Kincardine physician, Dr. Daniel Soong, in February.

That’s the word from the Kincardine Family Health Organization Team, in a press release issued Friday.

Soong plans to focus exclusively on emergency medicine at the Kincardine hospital.

“Dr. Soong has been one of the physicians in town who has been instrumental in keeping our local emergency room (ER) open, despite many other communities having closures,” states the release. “This has been a very difficult decision for Dr. Soong as he has enjoyed his work as a family doctor for the past seven-and-a-half years.

“However, over the past few years, his average workload has exceeded 70 hours per week as the needs of our hospital’s ER are ever more increasing. As the father of two growing boys, responsibilities at home are expanding. He is taking an opportunity to restructure his work in Kincardine and will transition to full-time ER work at Kincardine hospital where he will continue to serve as its chief of staff.”

Montpellier is looking forward to moving to Kincardine with his spouse, Janique, and two children, states the release. He is from Sudbury, and completed his medical degree at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine. He then completed residency in family medicine at Western University where he predominately worked in rural medicine.

“We thank Dr. Soong for his years of excellent patient care and are thrilled to have him continue that care as a full-time ER physician with the South Bruce Grey Health Centre,” states the release. “A huge welcome to Dr. Montpellier and family to our community and clinic!”

The Municipality of Kincardine continues to actively recruit physicians to the area, and is hopeful it can find more providers to join the Family Health Organization, with the goal of having a health-care provider for all the members of the community.
