Bervie W.I. learn about Indigenous traditions and cultural events
November 4, 2023
The Bervie Women’s Institute met at the Bervie United Church, Wednesday morning.
President Bev Berndt opened the meeting with the singing of “O Canada,” the Opening Ode and the Mary Stewart Collect. Nine members and one visitor answered the Roll Call: “Something I know about Indigenous people.”
Bev and others gave an update on some of our members who have been experiencing health issues – we wish them all speedy recoveries. Betty Jean White read the minutes of the last meeting and Islay Eby gave the treasurer’s report.
Congratulations to Sandra MacDonald who received the Women of Excellence Fair Award at the Bruce District W.I. Rally last week – a well-deserved honour. Islay gave a brief report on the rally.
Happy 97th Birthday wishes were extended to Mildred Griffith, our long-time W.I. member
Betty Jean will arrange delivery of the recipe books we have made for the Kincardine Food Bank. A donation will be made to Global Medic to be used in crisis areas in the world.
Sandra then gave a presentation about Indigenous people, assisted by our guest, Linda Collins. It was emphasized that we should all be good neighbours and be respectful of Indigenous traditions and cultural events.
The hymn, “They’ll know we are Christians,” was sung, and the meeting closed with the closing ode and “God Save the King.”
The next meeting will be at the Bervie United Church, Dec. 6, at 10 a.m., followed by a potluck lunch.
