Kincardine Community Living uses Trillium grant to mitigate impacts of pandemic
Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson met with representatives of Community Living of Kincardine and District, Thursday, to hear about how an 18-month, $94,300 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, made a difference for the agency since receiving it in the spring of 2023.

The foundation’s Resilient Communities Fund grant program was developed to help non-profit organizations and small communities recover from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Community Living of Kincardine and District is an integral part of this community,” said Thompson. “I am pleased to see that our government is supporting this organization through the foundation grant, so it can continue enhancing the lives of residents. In doing so, we are paving the way toward a more inclusive and vibrant region.”

The funds have allowed Kincardine Community Living to bring on a staff person to audit its current supports and services, look for opportunities in supports among vulnerable populations in the community, and work to build recommendations on how the agency can help to fill support gaps as a local service provider.

The grant also helped with communications and marketing costs, as well as purchasing new technical equipment.

“As we continue to work toward our vision of an inclusive caring community, we are exploring the possibility of expanding supports to people of all abilities who are aging, and their caregivers,” said executive director Andy Swan.

“Increasing value and resiliency for our organization, increasing access to supports for more people, and sharing our knowledge as we collaborate with partners in the community, will expand our vision to an inclusive, caring community for all.”

Community Living of Kincardine and District supports more than 150 people living with a developmental disability, in the Municipality of Kincardine and the Township of Huron-Kinloss, helping them live enriched and meaningful lives, as independently as possible.

The Ontario Trillium Foundation is an agency of the Ontario government with a mission to build healthy and vibrant communities across the province. Last year, the foundation invested more than $110-million into 1,044 community projects and multi-sector partnerships.

Projects aim to enhance economic well-being, foster more active lifestyles, support child and youth development, provide spaces for people to work together and connect, and create a more sustainable environment. Visit otf.ca to learn more.
