Ontario increasing funding to local hospitals
The Ontario government is investing an additional $8.566-million this year to deliver faster, more connected care to people in Bruce, Grey and Owen Sound.
This funding is part of the province’s investment of an additional $965-million, through the 2024 budget, to help Ontario’s publicly-funded hospitals meet the needs of the communities they serve now, and for years to come.
"Increasing investments for our local hospitals in Bruce, Grey and Owen Sound is important to ensure proper supports, close to home, continue to be in place," said Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson.
The following hospital corporations will receive additional funding:
- South Bruce Grey Health Centre (which includes Kincardine Hospital) - $1,808,100
- Brightshores Health Systems - $5,962,500
- Hanover and District Hospital - $795,400
“This additional funding to hospital operating budgets will help keep emergency departments open, support inflationary or other wage pressures and reduce wait times for diagnostic imaging and surgical procedures, including MRI, CT, cardiac, stroke, neuro-services, orthopedics, and cataracts, so that people can connect to care faster,” said Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Rick Byers.
To continue to make it faster and easier for people to access the care they need, no matter where they live, Ontario’s $965-million investment includes funding to specifically support smaller and northern hospitals to maintain service delivery and reduce their surgical wait lists and wait times.
