Bruce Power donates $100,000 to Walkerton soccer complex

Bruce Power has provided a major boost to the soccer field project in Walkerton.

 

The company has donated $100,000 to the Bruce Power Regional Soccer Field Complex, which will include four full-size soccer fields, one smaller practice field and supporting infrastructure for players of all ages. The project was launched in 2008 and will be ready for the 2016 season.

 

“This soccer complex will be a safe, sustainable and properly-maintained facility that will assist with the continued growth of soccer across the entire region,” said James Scongack, Bruce Power’s vice-president, corporate affairs. “We’re very proud to play a role in this project, but it wouldn’t have been possible without the early support of numerous local businesses owners, who have been extremely generous, relative to their size.”

 

Jeff Roberts, president of Walkerton Minor Soccer, said the club is excited to welcome Bruce Power to the project.

 

“This donation is a great demonstration of Bruce Power’s commitment to youth and the future of the sport in our region,” he said. “We are pleased to have Bruce Power’s name on the regional soccer field complex and look forward to our facility reflecting the high standards that come with the company’s name.”

 

Brockton mayor David Inglis said Bruce Power’s donation is a good-news story for the project.

 

“We are overwhelmed by the generosity of Bruce Power and are thankful for the company's support of this important initiative,” he said. “Bruce Power’s donation – as well as those from all of the other generous businesses in Brockton and area – will ensure the continued growth of soccer in the Municipality of Brockton and Bruce, Grey, Huron, Perth and Wellington counties, whose teams will enjoy visiting our state-of-the-art complex.”
