The board meets with the OPP detachment commander on a regular basis to determine objectives and priorities for policing in the community; and board members receive a small honorarium.
Applicants should have good written and verbal communication skills, previous experience on boards or committees, service to the community as a volunteer, and an awareness of local policing issues. (The Police Services Act, R.S.O. 1990, specifies that the community member may be neither a member of council nor a municipal employee.)

MURRAY YUNGBLUT RECEIVES EXEMPLARY SERVICE MEDAL
Also at the Dec. 21 meeting, Murray Yungblut received a 20-year exemplary service medal for his 21 years with the Ripley-Huron Fire Department. The presentation was made by fire chief Chris Cleave, mayor Mitch Twolan and deputy mayor Wilfred Gamble.
"Thank you for your hard work and dedicated service to this community," said Twolan.
Other members of the Ripley-Huron Fire Department received their medals in November.
