Following Tuesday's blizzard which closed highways in the Kincardine area, the roads were all re-opened by Wednesday at noon.
This meant a day off for students who take the bus to school, as all buses were cancelled.
South Bruce OPP reported that by 6 a.m. Wednesday, Highway 9 from Kincardine to Walkerton was open, but Highway 21 remained closed from Amberley to Grand Bend.
Police remind motorists that if they decide to travel, keep their headlights and tail lights on and clear of snow, and keep the speed down - “If you see snow, go slow."
The public is also reminded that for up-to-date road/weather information, visit: www.brucecounty.on.ca/road-conditions.php or call Bruce County Roads at 1 866–266-7569, Option 2.
Huron County OPP reported that, at 9:10 a.m., the only road that was still closed, was Highway 21 from Blyth Road to Amberley Road.
All motorists are encouraged to check weather and road travel conditions by calling 5-1-1 or checking on-line at www.Ontario.ca/trip for up-to-date road conditions for provincially-maintained highways. This bilingual service is available 24 hours a day and provides updates on highway closures and road conditions.
Drivers take notice, driving on a closed roadway may result in a $110 fine and three demerit points, if convicted. Also, do not call the OPP provincial communications centre for road and weather conditions. Police will not provide this information. By calling the centre, it ties up phone lines and personnel used for emergency calls.
Finally, by noon, all of Highway 21 had been re-opened.
The weather continued cold, snowy and blustery through Wednesday, with similar conditions Thursday, and milder with rain on Friday.
