Elmer Arthur Smeltzer of RR1, Ripley, died at the Kincardine hospital, Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at the age of 81. Born in Kincardine Township, Aug. 16, 1935, he was the son of Elva (Hooey) and Arthur Smeltzer. Beloved husband of Marianne Smeltzer (West). Dear father of Dan (Darlene) Smeltzer of RR1, Ripley, Jean Anne Smeltzer of London, and Liz (Fred) Durnin of Kingsbridge. Greatly missed by grandchildren, Jennelle, Kurtis, Kyle, Emma, Maggie and Sarah. Also survived by sisters, Mary (Jim) Mills of Muskoka, Iva Smeltzer (Peter Kiourelis) of Mississauga, and Arla (John) Dahmer of Ripley; brother-in-law, Jim (Hope) West of Ashfield; and sister-in-law, Sharon MacDougall of Goderich. Elmer farmed all his life, and served for a number of years as councillor of Huron Township prior to its amalgamation with Lucknow and Kinloss Township in 1999. Visitation will be held at the Pine River United Church, Saturday, May 13, 2017, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The funeral will be held at the church, Sunday, May 14, 2017, at 2 p.m. Interment, Lurgan Cemetery.
