MARGARET "SUZANNE" McKITTERICK (née PETTIT)

May 13, 2017

Margaret “Suzanne” McKitterick (née Pettit), of Kincardine, died at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre – Kincardine hospital, Saturday, May 13, 2017, in her 82nd year. Beloved wife of the late Charles Michael “Mike” McKitterick (2016). Dear mother of Mary-Jane McKitterick of Toronto, Robert Gordon McKitterick of London and John Michael McKitterick of Kincardine. Cherished grandmother of Daniella Marie McKitterick, Jacob Michael McKitterick and Charles Joseph James McKitterick. Loved sister of Claude (Anne) Pettit of Owen Sound, Alex (Bernice) Pettit of Brights Grove, Derek (Janet) Pettit of Wilkesport, and Wendy (Norm) Vent of Port Hope. Missed by brother-in-law, Patrick (Heljo) McKitterick of Brampton. Also missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins & friends. Predeceased by her parents Claude and Nylene. Suzanne was a dedicated elementary school teacher in Brampton and then at W.E. Thompson Public School in Kincardine. As a Grades 1 and 2 teacher, she taught hundreds of children to read, write, count, have confidence and love learning. A gifted educator, she had extra time and energy for those who found school more challenging and was committed to making learning a positive experience for all children. Former students and their parents have expressed gratitude over the years for giving them that important start. Suzanne was an avid gardener, bridge player, volunteer and walker. It was common to see her taking her morning constitutional on the boardwalk, rail trail or beach. She loved the song birds in her yard, the Stratford Festival, and continental road trips with her beloved, husband Mike. She was happiest when organizing events to bring her extended family and friends together. She had a big smile, and time for everyone who needed it. A devoted wife and mother, she had a special place in her expansive heart for her three grandchildren, Dani, Jacob and Charlie. She was a big part of their early lives and they were the centre of her universe. Her death has left a huge hole in the lives of her family but we know Suzanne and Mike are waving at us all from the car window on that eternal road trip in the sky. “Second star to the right and straight on till morning.” Thank you to kind neighbours, friends and local business owners who dropped by, ran errands, went that extra mile and supported Suzanne as her health failed. Thank you to Dr. Lisa Roth and the Kincardine medical staff at the hospital and clinic. We will never be able to thank all of you enough. You showed the highest level of care, expertise and dedication possible. Thank you to the caring staff at RVilla in Ripley and Trillium Court in Kincardine, for showing her the kindness and care that she showed others. Visitation will be held at the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, Kincardine, Saturday, May 20, 2017, from 11 a.m. until Noon, with the funeral to follow at 12:30 p.m., with Pastor Ray Luinstra officiating. Final resting place, Kincardine Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
