MILDRED "JEAN" KARIKAS (née McLAURIN)

Mildred “Jean” Karikas (née McLaurin), of Kincardine, died at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre -Kincardine, Friday, July 17, 2015, in her 74th year. Beloved wife of the late Steve Karikas. Survived by her step-children, Jeanette and David. Sadly missed by her first cousins, John, Margaret Ellen, Betty Ann, Donna, Robert, Carole, Wallace, Wayne and Geoffrey and their families. Predeceased by her parents, John and Mildred (Wallace) McLaurin, and her cousins, Judy and Leslie. Jean was born and raised in Ottawa, moved to Toronto and met Steve, a widower with two children. After losing Steve to cancer, Jean continued working at Bruce Power until her retirement in 2005. Jean then became more active in the community, volunteering with a number of service organizations, including Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Kincardine and District, the Huron Shores Lions Club, and the Red Hat Society, among others. She had a life-long devotion to dogs, including shelter dogs in recent years. She will be sadly missed by family and friends. Visitation will be held at the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, Kincardine, Saturday, July 25, from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m., with Rev. Eric Williams officiating. Interment, Beechwood Cemetery, Ottawa. Memorial donations to Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Kincardine and District or a charity of your choice would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
