JOHN ALEXANDER SHEPHERD

John Alexander Shepherd of Kincardine died, with family by his side, at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Kincardine, Friday, Aug. 11, 2017, in his 93rd year. Beloved husband of the late Dorothy Shepherd (née Remy) who predeceased him April 17, 2011. Loving father of Dianne Van derWal (Bill) of Abbotsford, B.C.; Barbara Knott (Denny) of Lucan; Karen Winter of Gananoque; Bonnie Kraemer (Larry) of RR 2, Kincardine; Garry Shepherd of RR 1, Kincardine; Bev Shepherd of RR 2, Kincardine; and Ruth Robbins-Wall (Andrew Wall) of Cambridge. Sadly missed by his 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his son, Morley Shepherd; parents, Edward and Minnie (née Falconer) Shepherd; brothers, Edward, Roger, Bill and George; and sisters, Myrtle Banter, Mary Rose, Charity Lewis and Cora Oak. John was the last surviving member of his family. A veteran of the Second World War, John served with the Canadian Army from 1943-45, and later joined a combined operation and boarded a Greek ship chartered by the British Government Army from 1945-47. For his service, he received the Order of Kincardine. John had a keen interest in municipal affairs, particularly during the years when his son-in-law, Larry Kraemer, was mayor of the Municipality of Kincardine. Visitation will be held at the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, Kincardine, Sunday, Aug. 13, 2017, from 2-4 p.m., where the funeral will be held Monday, Aug. 14, 2017, at 1 p.m., with Pastor Kenneth Craig officiating. Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 183, Kincardine Memorial Service at Noon. Interment, Kincardine Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
