Jeltje (Judie) Burns (nee Piel) left to join her Saviour while surrounded by love, at Alexandra Marine and General Hospital in Goderich, Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017. She was 65. Wife and best friend of Steve. Loving mother of Aric, Katherine (Brent) Nichols, Colin (Serena), and Dan. Proud Oma of Jack, Lucas, Calleigh and William Nichols, Kenley Sanderson and Nic and Parker Burns. Sister of Bert (Ida), Bill, and John (Stephanie) Piel, Tina (Henry) Klaas, Corrie (Douwe) Bakker, and Alice Doelman. Pre-deceased by her parents, Rinske and Eizo Piel. She will be greatly missed by all, as well as a large extended family and many dear friends. Judie was living proof that Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is an asset. She was a great organizer but not necessarily organized, had a quick sense of humour and was always thinking outside the box. Fiercely sensitive to “women’s roles” and perceptions of restriction, she loved to eat, hated to cook, loved spring, hated cold, loved flowers and decorating, especially Christmas. She loved exercise and was an adventurous traveller. She was quick to smile and loved to spend time with seniors. She did not want to be a grandmother but then, when it happened, could not get enough of being an Oma. Judie had a strong, unquestioning faith and love for the Lord. Her family sincerely thanks the doctors and staff at Goderich hospital, Pastor Stephen Tamming, and Judie's great friends in the “Prayer Group,” for all their support. The family received friends at Trinity Christian Reformed Church, Goderich, Saturday, Sept. 9, from 7-10 p.m., and Sunday, Sept. 10, from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Judie’s life was celebrated in a service at Trinity Church, Monday, Sept. 11, 2017, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Trinity Church Building Fund, International Teams (Impact Zambia) or the Canadian Cancer Society; arrangements entrusted to McCallum and Palla Funeral Home, 519-524-7345. |
