Glen Walden of Lucknow died peacefully at the Wingham and District Hospital, March 5, 2018, in his 90th year.
Born March 14, 1928, in Huron Township, he was the son of the late Gertrude L. "Gertie" (Pollock) and Robert J. "Bert" Walden. Survived by his wife of 52 years, Lois (Alton) (nee Fell) of Nine Mile Villa in Lucknow; daughters, Lynda Walden of Niagara Falls, and Nancy Walden of Lucknow; step-daughters, June Alton of Stephenville, NL, Nancy Ebel of Kitchener, Ruth Ritchie (Don) of Goderich, and Grace Alton of Kitchener. Remembered by his grandchildren, Dan Karpyshyn (Kim Rapley) and Joe Karpyshyn (Lisa), both of Clinton, Taylor Karpyshyn (Vincent Champeval) of Whitehorse, YT, Danica Hynes (Shane Harnett) of Stephenville, NL, Chelsea Hynes (Randy Stroet) of Winnipeg, MB, Collin Ebel and Heather Ebel, both of Kitchener, Sarah Ritchie (Brad Schedewitz) of Hanover, and Brad Ritchie (Terri Hearns) of Drumbo, as well as seven great-grandchildren. Also survived by his brothers-in-law, Morgan Johnston of Kincardine and Frank Alton (Loreen) of Lucknow; sister-in-law, Helen Fell of Mitchell; and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by wife, Jean Taylor in 1963; brother, Murray Walden; sister, Bertha MacKenzie; sisters-in-law, Marion Walden, Betty Ackert and Doris Johnston; brothers-in-law, Jack MacKenzie, Jack Ackert and Lorne Fell; step-daughter, Mary Alton; and son-in-law, Matheson Ebel. Glen was a Holstein dairy farmer in Lucknow until selling the farm in 1977. He continued with a beef cow-calf operation until 2003. He was a sales agent for the Bruce County Holstein Club from 1978-2000, a 4-H Dairy Calf Club leader, member of the Pine River United Church, then Lucknow United Church, a long-time member of the Lucknow District Co-op and Lucknow Agricultural Society, on the board of Bruce Grey Crime Stoppers, and a member of the Masonic Lodge for more than 60 years. Visitation will be held at the MacKenzie and McCreath Funeral Home, Lucknow, Wednesday March 7, 2018, from 2-4 p.m., and 6-8 p.m., with a Masonic service conducted at 1:30 p.m. The funeral will be held in the chapel, Thursday, March 8, 2018, at 1 p.m. Spring interment, Greenhill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Lucknow United Church or the Wingham Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated as expressions of sympathy. |
