E. Joyce Courtney of Ripley died peacefully, surrounded by her family, at RVilla in Ripley, June 4, 2018. She was 88. She was the beloved wife of Elmer Courtney who predeceased her in 2016. Born in Kincardine Township, Dec. 4, 1929, she was the only child of the late Frances Moffat and Ralph Elliott. Dear mother of Lynn and Freda Courtney of Ripley, Gail and Brian Johnson of Kincardine, Carmon and Bernice Courtney of Ripley and Joan and Mike Petersen of Edmonton, Alberta. Also survived by daughter-in-law, Carol Courtney; and son-in-law, Rodger Ludwig. Missed by her 24 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her children, Elliott (2010) and Ann (2013). Joyce was a community-minded person and a hearty volunteer. She worked with her husband, Elmer, on the farm, and later, they lived for many years at Pine River. She was a cancer survivor and she and Elmer walked the victory lap at the annual Relay for Life in Kincardine. After Elmer died, she moved to RVilla in Ripley where she enjoyed visiting with residents and visitors, and took in the many activities and entertainment. She was an avid walker and always loved a visit from the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at St. Andrew's United Church, Ripley, Saturday, June 9, 2018 from 1 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 2 p.m., with Pastor Marsha Roberts officiating. Interment, Ripley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Sleeping Children Around the World, St. Andrew's United Church, or the Me to We organization, as expressions of sympathy.
