MARY "ELETTA" AITKEN (NICKEL)

Mary “Eletta” Aitken (Nickel) of Ripley, formerly of Kincardine, died peacefully at her home, RVilla in Ripley, Sunday, Oct. 21, 2018, at the age of 100. Beloved wife of the late Stuart Aitken (2014). Cherished mother of Vera (Frank) Lappano of St. Catharines, Rev. Bruce Aitken of Bracebridge, Ferne (Wes) Abell of Dunkeld, and Clark (MaryLynne) Aitken of McKay’s Corners; and and mother-in-law of Gary Schaus of Clifford. Loved grandmother of 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Dear sister of George (Hazel) Nickel of Walkerton. Also missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Predeceased by her daughter, Gloria Schaus; daughter-in-law, Kathy Aitken; sisters, Margaret Burchill-Ferguson, Ruth Sewers, and Ada Aitchison; and brother, Carl Nickel. Eletta was a patient, kind and compassionate woman who found enjoyment in all she did. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was content wherever she was. She celebrated her 100th birthday, July 3, 2018, with family and friends; and she enjoyed waving to the crowd Sept. 29, 2018, as she rode in the Ripley-Huron Fall Fair parade. Visitation will be held at the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, Kincardine, Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2018, from 5-9 p.m., and at the Kincardine United Church, Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018, from Noon to 1 p.m., with the funeral to follow at 1:30 p.m. Interment, Kincardine Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Kincardine United Church, Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation, or Ripley Agricultural Society, would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
