Alex Leslie Stewart, beloved husband of the late Laurena May Lowry, died Oct. 31, at the age of 87. Dad was born on the family homestead at Glenavon, Saskatchewan, Dec. 19, 1930, to Fern (Larrett) and Thomas Stewart. One of 11 children born into a loving and close-knit family, he was affectionately called “Ike” by his mother and spent his childhood in his father’s shadow. In 1938 during the Great Depression, the family relocated to Kinloss, Ontario, to be closer to other family members. Dad married Mom, April 9, 1955, and they raised five daughters born within the first six years of marriage. Mom always called Dad “Hun” or “Stew.” He leaves behind to cherish his memory daughters, Melanee (Lloyd), Laurena (Michael), Katherine (Danny), Leslie (Elmer), and Cynthia; as well as grandchildren, Christopher (Monica), Shawn (Karen), Kameron (Kim), Alexander (Tracy), Nicholas, Katie (Michael), Eliza (Cory), Amelia (Joel), Stewart, Jessica, Stephanie, Scott and Alana; and great-grandchildren, Thalia, Laila, Maria, Tyler, Leo, Quinten, Stella, Lucy, Anika, Daxton, Lyla, Laila Lyn and Elizabeth. Also lovingly remembered by siblings, Mabel, Russell (Gloria), and Eva. Dad was predeceased by his wife, Laurena; loving parents, Fern and Thomas; siblings, Ila, John, Gerald, Harold, Ellen, Mildred, Ernest (Bud); and granddaughter, Lisa. Dad will be cremated and placed in the Kincardine Cemetery once arrangements are completed. |
