Peter William Owens of Kincardine, died June 14, 2023, at Huron Shores Hospice in Tiverton, surrounded by family. He was 74. Husband of Carol Owens, proud father of Michelle Owens (Matthew Etches), Jocelyn Meekins (Jonathan Meekins) and Sean Owens (Kyla Pattingale). Grandfather of Devon Owens (Evan Ottoni), Ewan Simeon, Penelope Meekins and Sebastian Meekins. Survived by his father-in-law, Harold Grahlman; and siblings, Marg McCready (Dave), Willy Tice (Doug), and Rob Owens (Janet). Fondly remembered by the extended Owens and Grahlman families. He will also be greatly missed by our many, many friends. His passion for the Kincardine Yacht Club (KYC) started as a founding member and continued through to today. As a dedicated KYC member, he contributed to all the KYC activities including the establishment of the Lighthouse Museum. Peter was a dedicated sailor, proud of our wooden sailboat, “Majorette,” and enjoyed surprising everyone with her construction and history. He enjoyed sharing his sailing affection with our family, KYC members, the Big Brothers and Big Sisters, our racing crew and visiting boaters. Cruising in the North Channel with our family and friends was a yearly event, as well as day sailing in Lake Huron. To say he was smart doesn't come close to the unimaginable knowledge he possessed. He loved sharing bits of "miscellaneous pure knowledge." He loved talking. To anyone. He loved reading and had a remarkable memory. He had an aptitude for technical and mechanical things which paired well with his love of life-long learning. After his retirement from Ontario Power Generation, he escaped the cold by camping extensively throughout the southern states. We enjoyed exploring the history and culture of the places we visited. Our family expresses our deepest gratitude to all the medical professionals who saw him in the last two months of his life. He gave glowing reviews of all the medical staff he saw. If you choose to make a donation in Peter's memory, please consider Huron Shores Hospice or a charity of your choice. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
