NWMO's proposed DGR will impact Kincardine, Huron-Kinloss, says reader
To the Editor:
RE: “NWMO update on progress with landowners in South Bruce”
With respect to the recent article, entitled “NWMO update on progress with landowners in South Bruce,” I would like to stress to all residents of Kincardine and Huron-Kinloss that this is not the same as Ontario Power Generation (OPG)'s Deep Geological Repository (DGR) site-selection process that was vetoed by the Saugeen Ojibway Nation earlier this year.
This is a new site-selection process for the long-term storage of spent nuclear fuel.
So, why should residents be concerned? The site being studied is on the outskirts of Teeswater, about 30 kilometres from Kincardine. This is within commuting distance of Kincardine so will have an impact on Kincardine infrastructure (eg. housing, health care, roads).
I encourage everyone to visit the NWMO information website at
www.nwmo.ca/en/Canadas-Plan/About-Adaptive-Phased-Management-APM/Implementing-the-Plan and provide input or attend one of the workshop sessions.
