Consider donating to Walker House Capital Campaign
To the Editor:
As the pandemic drags on, we are all feeling the loss of many of our usual pursuits: family gatherings, concerts, plays, games and travel to name a few.
We also need to make sure that our favourite businesses and arts venues are still around when life returns to normal. Here’s an idea: since you can’t go on that cruise, or travel to an exotic location this winter, why not donate some of the money you saved to a local charity?
One suggestion: The Walker House, the oldest building in Kincardine, which was saved and repurposed 20 years ago to be our local museum and cultural centre, is currently raising funds for an ambitious maintenance project. This spring and summer will see repair and painting of the wood siding and windows, a project estimated to cost around $150,000.
We have been approved for a Rural Economic Development (RED) Grant from the Province of Ontario, of approximately $27,000, but we will need to raise another $125,000 to complete the project.
Thank you to all who have already donated to the Walker House Capital Campaign. Donations currently total more than $40,000, which is almost one-third of our goal. You can keep track of our progress on our fund-raising thermometer, located at the front of the building.
We welcome all donations. Donations at the Bronze ($250), Silver ($500), Gold ($1,000) and Platinum ($5,000) levels will be commemorated in a permanent plaque to be installed in the garden when the campaign is complete.
You can donate on our website or Facebook page, by mail (235 Harbour St., Kincardine N2Z 2X9) or by E-transfer (
pwalkertreasurer@bmts.com). All donations over $25 will receive a tax receipt.
Stay tuned for our “Paint-a-Board” campaign to start in the spring. We will also soon start recruiting volunteers to help with the project.
Thanks to your generosity, we are well on our way to being able to revitalize the exterior of this iconic, historic building.
Sincerely,
Sylvia Leigh
