Reader questions board's insistence of Edge Plus CT scanner for Kincardine
To the Editor:
I don’t see why the South Bruce Grey Health Centre board of directors is so adamant about buying the Edge Plus CT scanner for Kincardine hospital.
With the same Drive CT scanner as Walkerton hospital (also part of the South Bruce Grey Health Centre), wouldn’t technician training be similar, allowing CT staff to rotate sites, if needed. Maintenance would be similar, future upgrades would be similar, etc.
It’s become a money issue here which I never heard was an issue when Walkerton got its Drive model.
It’s said the Edge Plus is a souped-up model of the Edge scanner, has no operating history in Canada and, factually, scans slower than the Drive scanner.
The South Bruce Grey Health Centre needs proven equipment in its four hospital sites, and the bottom line in this case, should not influence the selection criteria.
