Drive CT scanner would provide health care for all in Kincardine, says reader
To the Editor:

I watched one-and-a-half hours of the Kincardine council meeting Wednesday night (Feb. 17) to hear the discussion regarding the purchase of the CT scanner for the Kincardine hospital.

My biggest concern from the discussion was that Michael Barrett, president and CEO of the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, said 10 per cent or more patients will still need to go to Walkerton for scans.

Ten per cent is a big number of patients each year and will likely increase as the population increases and/or ages.

Since the scanner in Kincardine will last at least 10 years, that number multiplied over the next 10 years becomes a huge number of patients who will need to find transportation to Walkerton for a CT scan when we have a scanner here (if Kincardine has the Edge Plus).

Many people, particularly seniors, are not always able to drive to Walkerton. So, transportation then becomes an issue. The Drive CT scanner would provide health care for all patients in Kincardine.
