"Junior Geologist" presentation is a good opportunity, says writer

"Junior Geologist" presentation is a good opportunity, says writer
To the Editor:

The Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) was invited into three of our elementary schools in South Bruce to deliver a “Junior Geologist” presentation.

I would, first and foremost, like to thank our educators and principals for always doing the very best they can for our children, and for ensuring they are exposed to a range of subjects. We know that students do not always get a variety of opinions or perspectives in their homes and it is great to see our schools hosting learning opportunities around challenging local topics.

For someone to state that the NWMO is “grooming our children” is ridiculous. The NWMO is part of our community, whether the author of said letter likes it or not.

Our children are our future. There are not many opportunities for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) learning in our community, and as a mother with children in one of the schools where the NWMO presented, I have to say I am so thankful for the opportunity for the students.

Educational opportunities, such as these, might inspire future scientists; I hope that there are job opportunities in the future that will keep the next generation of scientists and engineers in our community for our betterment.
