Remembering the forest near the southeast section of Golf Links Road, Kincardine
To the Editor:

OBITUARY

The forest that grew near the southeast section of Golf Links Road, Kincardine.

Violently, at home, in the fall of 2020, after succumbing to the ever-increasing devaluation of nature and the myths of limitless growth and ‘sustainable’ development.

The forest leaves behind countless, and now displaced or dead, residents, including toads, turtles, birds (including owls), bats, deer, foxes, rabbits, raccoons, squirrels, chipmunks, insects, plants, wildflowers, trees, mosses and mushrooms.

Predeceased by most forests in southwestern Ontario.

She was one of the last bastions of untouched nature in Kincardine, having been a fixture in the neighbourhood for several decades.

Her passions included producing oxygen, purifying the air, filtering ground water, helping to prevent flooding, regulating temperatures, and promoting biodiversity. Her calming presence, innate beauty and community service will be sorely missed, and her death has angered, disappointed and saddened many of her friends.

Cremation has taken place.

As an expression of sympathy, please consider making donations to conservation and environmental-education organizations, and advocating for the protection of the natural environment.
