We need to ask who really cares about health of local residents, says reader
To the Editor:
Former Ward 1 councillor and newly-appointed Kincardine mayor Gerry Glover said in an article in the Kincardine Record a few weeks ago that he was all for diversity.
Having just read the article, “Specialist devastated…,” I was surprised to see our new mayor, who is chief executive officer of the Family Health Team and also ran the municipally-owned medical clinic, was rather tardy in getting back to the specialist.
Perhaps you have to be “diverse” to be treated with respect in Kincardine. Prospective female doctors apparently don’t cut it. Come to think of it, isn’t misogyny included in diversity training?
Taxpayers should be asking such questions as:
- Why did the doctor recruiter offer a package to the specialist only to have Kincardine council renege on the deal?
- Why did Kincardine council decide to go it alone on doctor recruitment? (It had an agreement with Saugeen Shores and Bruce Power that had worked for some time.)
- Why did council offer the Kincardine hospital board hundreds of thousands of dollars to upgrade its purchase of a CT scanner to a better model, yet couldn’t afford a package for the specialist?
The most important question for the powers-that-be: Who really cares about the health of Kincardine and area residents?
