Canada Day should be celebrated, says reader
To the Editor:
RE: “Group calls for cancellation of Canada Day celebrations in Kincardine”
I do not believe Canadians should all be held accountable for those who created a tragic situation for Indigenous people. We are not guilty for their actions.
I believe Canada Day should be celebrated for the sake of upholding our families, friends and especially youngsters, to believe in our one and only day of the year to be proud of our country as it is today.
I am just as sad and frustrated about the suffering and horrific dealings put upon the Indigenous people as others. I believe having a special day set aside to acknowledge the tragic events would be more suitable.
Keeping Canada Day as a celebration is more positive for our wellness and mental state while being in a pandemic.
With all the sad and tragic events we hear daily, let’s celebrate, as we need something to be positive about for at least one day.
We need a diversion from the trying time we have been dealing with for a year-and-a-half, with not knowing our future.
Sincerely
Donna Irvine
