"Willing to Listen" group urges all to learn about potential DGR in South Bruce
To the Editor:
“Willing to Listen” is a grassroots, volunteer organization of South Bruce residents who are open to the possibility of building a Deep Geological Repository (DGR) for Canada's spent nuclear fuel, in South Bruce.
A vocal group of opponents is beginning to demand a referendum that could prematurely end the current process of research and scientific exploration.
If the DGR project is proven safe, and proceeds, the result will be hundreds of high-paying, high-tech jobs in the community, with significant downstream benefit for the local economy. Ending the process prematurely could deny South Bruce residents of this unprecedented opportunity.
“Willing to Listen” invites all residents of South Bruce and the surrounding community to trust the process of research and scientific exploration, and to learn more about the potential DGR project. The longer this project goes on, the more financial benefit there will be for the area.
If the project is eventually shown to be safe, it will provide an important service to all of Canada by permanently and safely storing the country’s spent nuclear fuel.
