Readers weigh in on proposed traffic lights on Highway 21 in Kincardine
To the Editor:
RE: “Traffic lights proposed for Highway 21 at Kincardine Avenue, Russell Street, Kincardine”

I would like to offer input with respect to the recent notification regarding upgrades to Highway 21, at Kincardine Avenue and Russell Street, in the Municipality of Kincardine.

A right turn lane on northbound Highway 21 at Durham Street (i.e. turning toward Sobeys, Tim Hortons, Canadian Tire, the car wash, Boston Pizza, Kincardine Dentistry, Lakeside GM, Holiday Inn, Marriott Hotel, Meridian Credit Union, etc.) should also be considered.

Northbound traffic turning right will only increase as development continues east of Highway 21, resulting in congestion and delays to traffic travelling north on Highway 21.

To the Editor:

Instead of traffic lights, use round-abouts as they are safer and much quicker at processing traffic.

Remove the lights at Highways 9 and 21 and replace with a round-about too.

Round-abouts slow down traffic without stopping it and have been proven to be safer in preventing head-on traffic accidents.

To the Editor:

Two more sets of traffic lights?!

In this age of reducing energy use/carbon footprint, traffic lights will be installed rather than traffic circles/round-abouts.

How often have you seen the lights change to red just as you approach and yet there is no traffic on the cross approach (green light). So, you just sit there and wait for the green light. SO BACKWARD!

There is plenty of space at these locations to install round-abouts. Otherwise, we would have four sets of lights in about a one-kilometre stretch of road, and they probably will not be synchronized.

To the Editor:

I like the way that Russell Street is set up now, and would like a similar set-up at Bruce Avenue. Would like to see traffic lights at Kincardine Avenue.

I absolutely hate traffic circles. They aren’t constructed large enough to work properly and are a waste of land use.

To the Editor:

Is the MTO considering lowering the speed limit to 50 km/h from Kincardine Township-Tiverton Public School to Kincardine Avenue?

Along that roadway, there are three schools and two traffic lights – which will change to four.

If the speed limit remains at 80 km/h, this stretch of highway will be dangerous.
