Huron OPP report racing charges; and dangerous, impaired driver;

RENTAL VEHICLE IMPOUNDED FOR SEVEN DAYS
 

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) -  A driver late for a wedding will be making a trip to court to face a charge of Racing after he was stopped by police this past weekend. 

At approximately 4:44 p.m. Aug. 15, a Huron County OPP officer observed a Toyota Corolla travelling southbound on Bluewater Veterans Highway near Kintail at a high rate of speed. A speed measurement was taken with a RADAR device and the speed of the vehicle was locked at 133 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone. 
 

Luke MORRISON, 25, of Truro, Nova Scotia, has been charged with Race a Motor Vehicle. He has a scheduled court appearance Sept. 15, at Provincial Offences Act Court in Goderich. His licence was suspended for a seven days and his rental vehicle was impounded for seven days.
 

NOT A HAPPY CAMPER

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) -  A female driver from London is facing Dangerous Driving and Impaired Driving charges, stemming from an incident that took place this past weekend. 

Shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, Huron County OPP responded to a campsite located at the Falls Reserve Conservation Area to investigate a motor vehicle collision involving a suspected impaired driver.
 

The police investigation determined the driver of a GMC Terrain sports utility vehicle drove into a Toyota Venza that was parked at an adjacent campsite. The force of the collision pushed the Venza into the tent shelter where three people were sleeping. Neither the sleeping campers nor the driver was injured.
 

Officers located the driver of the Terrain and the investigation determined she had been drinking alcohol and her ability to drive was impaired. She was placed under arrest and taken into custody. She was transported to the Huron OPP detachment where she provided two samples of her breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician; both of her tests were above the legal limit.
 

As a result, 27-year-old Courtney JAMIESON of London has been charged with:  Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Impaired Driving and Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol. She has been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich, Oct. 5. She also received an automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension and her motor vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
 

HIGH SPEEDS EQUALS BIG FINES
 

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) -  A Sarnia resident has been charged with Racing, following a traffic stop Wednesday morning, Aug. 19. 

Just after 8 a.m., a Huron County OPP officer observed a Lincoln Navigator travelling southbound on Bluewater Veterans Highway near Iron Springs Road at a high rate of speed. The officer confirmed his observations with a RADAR device and measured the speed of the vehicle at a rate of 131 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone.
 

Upon stopping the vehicle, the officer charged the 33-year-old Sarnia driver, Marcello SOLINAS, with Race a Motor Vehicle. He has a scheduled court appearance, Oct. 6, at Provincial Offences Act Court in Goderich. His licence was suspended for a seven days and his rental vehicle was impounded for seven days.
 

Aggressive Drivers Please Note:  In addition to the immediate driver’s licence suspension and impoundment, penalties include fines ranging from $2,000 to $10,000, six demerit points, up to six months in jail and up to a two-year licence suspension for a first conviction.
