Reader recalls incident during Bruce County winter of 1970
To the Editor:
My mother came to this country in November of 1947 as a young woman of 20.
Coming from a city in England, she was not used to a lot of snow. Needless to say she wondered what she had gotten herself into.
In January of 1970, she boarded a train to travel to Kitchener to see her first grandchild. The train got no further than a mile or so outside of town when it got stuck in snow drifts.
A passing snowmobiler was kind enough to give her a ride home and the visit with her new grandchild had to wait awhile.
Despite the bad weather, she remained a proud Kincardinite until she passed away at the age of 85.
