It was an exciting day for hockey in Kincardine, Saturday, as Rogers SportsNet was at the Davidson Centre, filming the Kincardine Superheat Kinucks U13 (ages 13 and under) Local League Two team, winner of the Chevrolet Good Deeds Cup Early Bird grand prize.
During a number of “takes,” the players recited lines they had rehearsed with coach Bob Richards earlier.
Their first clip saw Nolan Lampi hollering, “We are the Kincardine Kinucks,” and then his teammates joining in with, “And we are the 2022 Chevrolet Good Deeds Cup Early Bird winners!”
Four players had solo bits:
Kian Kaminski said, “Coming up on Hockey Night in Canada.”
Ben Richards said, “The Toronto Maple Leafs travel to Vancouver to take on the Canucks.”
Rowan Watson said, “While the Winnipeg Jets face off with the Nashville Predators.”
Ben White said, “And in the late game, the Calgary Flames host the New York Islanders.”
The entire team then had to recite two more lines:
“And now, back to Ron MacLean and Hockey Night in Canada!”
“And now, back to the studio for Hockey Night in Canada!”
Each of those two lines was followed with plenty of loud cheering and banging of hockey sticks against the boards.
The clips will be edited together and the segment is scheduled for the Hockey Night in Canada pre-game show, Saturday, Feb. 12.
Following the filming, the players, coaching staff and parents moved used hockey equipment from MKH Storage to another location in Kincardine. They also sorted and disinfected it, thanks to a donation of disinfectant from Home Hardware, Rona and Canadian Tire in Kincardine, and then packaged it up. The equipment filled five trucks and one utility trailer.
The team has collected the gear to send to Cross Lake, Manitoba, as part of its Good Deeds Cup entry.
The Kinucks continue to accept donations of used hockey equipment. If you would like to donate, contact Richards at kbrichards0729@gmail.com or Tracy Primeau at tracy.primeau@gmail.com.
