PASSED OUT BEHIND THE WHEEL
(GODERICH, ON) – A 36-year-old from Norfolk County will be returning to Goderich for a court appearance following his arrest this past weekend.
At approximately 12:15 p.m., Friday, Sept.4, a concerned citizen attended the Goderich OPP detachment to report a vehicle was parked in such a manner that the rear end of the vehicle was sticking out into the travelled portion of Courthouse Square.
Upon locating the Chrysler sedan parked at the corner of Courthouse Square and Hamilton Street, the investigating officer found a man sleeping in the driver’s seat. The officer was able to rouse the sleeping driver and upon speaking with him, the officer determined the he had been drinking alcohol. The driver also displayed several signs that his ability to drive a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. In addition, an open can of beer was found inside the vehicle.
The driver was placed under arrest for Impaired Care and Control and was taken into custody. He was then transported to the Huron OPP detachment for breath tests where he provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician; both samples registered over the legal limit.
As a result, Ryan FRANCKE, 36, of Norfolk County has been charged with Care or Control While Impaired, Care or Control Over-80 Milligrams of Alcohol, and Having Care and Control of a Motor Vehicle with Unsealed Container of Liquor. His court appearance is scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich, Oct. 5. He also received an automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.
THREE-DAY SUSPENSION SERVED ON DRIVER
(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) – An early morning Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checkpoint put the brakes on a 57-year-old driver on Labour Day Monday, Sept. 7.
Just before 10 a.m., a Jeep Grand Cherokee entered into the checkpoint that was set up at the intersection of Bluewater Veterans Highway and Saltford Road. Upon speaking with the male driver, the investigating officer noted the driver had been drinking alcohol. A roadside test was completed and the driver registered a fail. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Huron County OPP detachment for breath tests.
Upon providing two samples of his breath, his results had lowered into the warn range level. As a result, the 57-year-old driver of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh was released from custody and served with a three-day driver’s licence suspension and a ticket for Driver Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor.
WARN RANGE SUSPENSION SERVED ON DRIVER
(GODERICH, ON) – An anonymous traffic complaint led to a three-day suspension being served on a driver this past weekend in Goderich.
At approximately 9:45 p.m., Sept. 6, Huron County OPP officers received a complaint about a possible impaired driver who stumbled into his van and drove away. Officers began patrolling for the suspect vehicle, a Pontiac Montana mini-van, and within a few minutes, it was located on Strang Court in Goderich.
An officer spoke with the driver and noted the driver had been drinking alcohol. A roadside test was conducted and the driver registered a warn range reading. The 72- year-old driver of Goderich was served with a three-day warn range suspension.
