Natasha Rutledge of Kincardine spent her summer painting garbage cans for the Municipality of Kincardine, and enjoyed doing it.

The 18-year-old (who will be 19 in November) daughter of Kirk and Stephanie Rutledge, is in her second year at Conestoga College in Kitchener, taking a Bachelor of Design.

She took the job painting garbage cans for the municipality as a way of building a portfolio and resume so it's easier for her to find a co-operative job placement between her third and fourth year (a requirement for her program), and a job once she has completed her degree.

Over a 150-hour period, she painted 19 garbage cans.

"I was inspired by different Celtic symbols," she said, "and just things that remind me of Scotland - the commission was for Scottish designs. My favourites are the piper, and the unicorn."

Besides her work and school, she enjoys travelling, reading, photography and watching movies.
