Tree protection survey was a waste of time, says reader
To the Editor:
RE: “Kincardine conducting survey about removal of trees on private property”

What a waste of time going through the process of using this survey toward the preparation of a bylaw for tree protection.

The content, wording and number of questions are highly skewed toward a position that a bylaw is absolutely necessary and toward the scope of the bylaw. There is very little of this survey that considers protection of property rights.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist but what next? Do we need to protect the milkweed for the butterflies, dandelions for the bees or the hedge on my neighbour's property?

Maybe we should concentrate on what happens on our own property (and public lands). So, if you want 80 trees, plant them in your own backyard and enjoy them. But with a bylaw, it would cost you a small fortune to remove them in the future!
