Tree policy infringes on personal property rights, says reader

RE: “Kincardine conducting survey about removal of trees on private property”
A tree policy on private land is a major infringement on personal property rights.
If a policy is implemented, it should be carefully crafted to include only mature trees of a certain height, age and species, and not interfere with a homeowner’s right to landscape.
For example, include oak trees that are more than 100 years old, but not include fast-growing species, such as Manitoba maples or poplar, that die at a young age.
A bylaw should not be cumbersome or charge a fee in lieu.
