Inmates running the asylum, says reader
To the Editor:
RE: “Vendor kicked out of Monday Market one day, re-instated the next” and “Councillors upset Kincardine tourist booth on highway only open part-time”
After reading two stories this week in the Kincardine Record, concerning the Municipality of Kincardine, I can’t help but wonder if the inmates are running the asylum.
In response to a complaint from a business person, a long-time vendor was told he couldn’t sell his wares at the Monday Market in Victoria Park.
Fortunately, the municipality reversed that decision the following day. If the complaint from the business about competition at the market had been allowed to stand, there would soon be no more market.
Who would make such a decision? Shouldn’t a policy about who can sell wares at the market have been in place years ago?
The other story concerned the tourist booth on Highway 21. Since this is a tourist town, it only makes sense that the booth on the highway be open seven days a week.
Sounds as if staff has other ideas. Read the story and you get the impression that staff is running the show. Don’t we elect council to make the decisions, not staff?
