UBC Local 2222 members build new dugouts at Connaught Park, Kincardine

July 13, 2022

Members of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters (UBC) Local 2222 recently completed the construction of new baseball dugouts at Connaught Park in Kincardine.

“Having spent the last couple of years down at Connaught Park in July and August watching youth baseball, it became evident that dugouts were a much-needed, yet missing part of the facility,” said union co-ordinator Ryan Plante. “In working with Ryan Fraser, president of the Kincardine Minor Baseball Association, we discussed the idea last fall and Local 2222 quickly stepped up and organized the project.”

For years, members of Local 2222 have been giving back to the communities where they work, play and live.

When asked why it was so important for them to get involved and support minor ball by organizing this project, Plante said, “Our members have always been community leaders; giving back to the community is ingrained in who we are. I’m very proud of the work our members do in building communities - these dugouts will be enjoyed by many for years to come.”

Local 2222 co-ordinated all aspects of the construction of the project, from the initial planning and drawings to the physical construction of the dugouts.

“In addition to the planning and work we completed, we were able to have students from the Dual Credit Construction Program in partnership with Fanshawe College and UBC Local 2222, attend the site for the day and help with construction,” said Plante.

Thank you to the participating Local 2222 members who helped bring this community project to a reality: Eric MacLeod, Zack Stevenson, Jakob Jennen, Rachel Bontaine, Josh Neitzel, Nolan Neitzel, Ryan Plante, Greg MacLeod, Scott Brough, Stephen Keip, and Grant Logie.
