Youth volleyball camp has returned to Kincardine
The Momentum Pro Sports volleyball camp has returned to Kincardine for two weeks instead of one.

Last week, 20 athletes in Grades 6-12, took part in the camp, led by local volleyball coach Melissa Chauder.

Taking part in the camp, were Aleiah Torres who plays for Brock University, and coach Holly Biasi who plays for Queen’s University, along with an afternoon with coach Rory of RPG Training Systems, teaching about strength and conditioning.

So far, 25 athletes have registered for the second camp, Aug. 2-5, at the Davidson Centre.

The inaugural camp was held in 2019, and welcomed volleyball professionals Nathan Groenveld, York University men's volleyball coach; and Andre Brown of Mississauga, professional overseas player, who is on a volleyball team in Portugal.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the camp was cancelled for past two years, but Chauder is thrilled to see it return.

The second camp runs Tuesday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with classroom sessions and practical experience on the volleyball court in the gymnasium.

“The time spent in the classroom focuses on health and nutrition, sleep and hydration, as well as learning some more advanced volleyball skills,” says Chauder. “It's a great opportunity for the youth to work with a coach and player of this calibre."

Chauder met Michael Amoroso of Momentum Pro Sports during a boys volleyball clinic in Chesley, and invited him to do a volleyball camp in Kincardine.

“It not only boosts their skills in the sport, it gives them an awareness of the opportunities beyond high school," says Chauder. "There are university volleyball scholarships, and volleyball clubs and organizations.”

Amoroso will be joining Chauder for the second camp, along with university volleyball player Josh Collins, and an afternoon with coach Rory.
