Saugeen Track and Field Club wins eight medals at Athletics Ontario championships
The Saugeen Track and Field Club has once again proven its mettle against the top talent in the province.
The club’s athletes won eight medals and had several “Personal-Best” (PB) performances at the Athletics Ontario Under-16 (U16) and Under-18 (U18) Track and Field Championships held at T.D. Waterhouse Stadium in London on the weekend.
A small contingent of seven Saugeen Track and Field Club U18 girls scored enough points to place the club as the sixth best in the province in the U18 division. The U18 division had 49 clubs competing and combined both boys and girls totals.
Multiple medal winners were Brooklyn Quanz of Port Elgin, Jasmine Broere of Kincardine, Michelle van Stuyvenberg of Teeswater, and Kara Tichbourne of Meaford.
Quanz’s 3,000-metre run of 9:51.43 was not only golden but also moved her into the No. 5 ranking in Canada in that event.
Also ranked nationally are Broere, sixth in discus and seventh in shot put; and van Stuyvenberg, seventh in both hammer and discus.
