Kincardine Bulldogs lose two on the weekend

September 22, 2022

The Kincardine Bulldogs of the Provincial Junior Hockey League (PJHL) started their season on the wrong end of the stick, losing games to Wingham and Hanover on the weekend.

The season home opener was Friday night, Sept. 16, against Wingham, in front of a solid crowd at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine.

Announcer Gord Kemp welcomed everyone to the start of the Kincardine Home Hardware Bulldogs 2022-23 season.

“The Bulldogs have been extremely fortunate to have amazing community support,” he said. “They send a special thank you to Lynda and Harold Maurer, owners of Dar-Lyn Pools, which has been the major sponsor of the Bulldogs for the past three seasons. Thank you, Howie and Lynda.

“This season, we welcome Kincardine Home Hardware as the major sponsor. Thank you to owners Melanie and Brad Pyke for your continued support of the Kincardine Bulldogs!”

The Ironmen scored the only goal of the game, in period two, to take the 1-0 win.

At home, Saturday night, Sept. 17, the ‘Dogs were edged out by the Barons, 3-2, in overtime.

Hanover opened the scoring midway in the first period, and then made it a 2-0 game, partway through the second.

Harrison Meulensteen put the Bulldogs on the board minutes later, scoring from Carter Servais, to make it a 2-1 game.

Early in the third, Gavin Gibbons tied it up for the ‘Dogs, 2-2, with assists to Gavin Downs and Nolan MacKinnon, and that’s how the game ended, forcing the match into overtime.

Hanover scored a minute into the overtime period, to win the game, 3-2.

Kincardine goalie Carter Garvie made 26 saves on 29 shots.

The Bulldogs are on the road this weekend, travelling to Walkerton, Friday night, Sept. 23 for a 7:30 p.m. game; and to Mount Forest, Saturday night, Sept. 24, for an 8 p.m. game.
