Off the Broom – Glad to be back on the ice!

November 25, 2022

It is great to be back on the ice again and to enjoy the recent renovations to our lounge area. The club is now much more welcoming to all with many new additions and improvements. We were fortunate over the past while to receive grants from the New Horizons for Seniors program, the Ontario Trillium Foundation and Farm Credit Canada, enabling us to purchase new equipment and do the upgrades.

The Grey Bruce Seniors Curling League has resumed after a nearly two-year hiatus, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is great way to renew old acquaintances and begin new ones, with a little friendly competition thrown in to keep it spicy.

Nov. 2, the team from the Kincardine Curling Club took home first prize in the early draw at the Meaford Curling Club. The team was skipped by Mark Luckhardt, Pat Pringle threw vice stones, Glyn Pinkney was second, and first-time participant Tom Jedemann threw lead stones. As usual, the curling ice was magnificent at Meaford which generally sets the ice standard in the league.

Nov. 9, the team from the Kincardine Curling Club once again took home first place in the early draw at the Chesley Curling Club. This team was skipped by Mark Luckhardt, viced by Pat Pringle, Glyn Pinkney was second and Gerard Lang threw lead rocks.

All leagues are well under way. Each session, of which there are three, is comprised of seven weeks. Our second session will be starting in early January. If you are interested in joining for that session or the next, information can be found by googling Kincardine Curling Club. We are always happy to see new members and curling is a great way to pass the cold and dreary winter months.

Unfortunately, our annual “Innies versus Outies” bonspiel was cancelled. The Stinky Shoe trophy will have to gather dust for another year. We will host a men’s bonspiel in January and so it is not too soon to be thinking of getting your team together and get registered.

Thank you to those who decorated the club for the holiday season - it looks very festive. Maybe I should hang my stocking by the new fireplace and see what happens!
