KDSS badminton season is a “smashing” success
Kincardine District Senior School had a strong turn-out for badminton season this year, resulting in the development of a strong team that competed and placed well at BAA with many players qualifying for CWOSSA.

The Junior team competed in BAA, April 13, in Wiarton with great results:

  • Junior boys singles player Torran Stinson placed 2nd
  • Junior girls singles player Jen McLarty placed 4th
  • Junior boys doubles players Trent Houghton and Beckett Graham placed 2nd
  • Junior mixed doubles players Cam Carney and Delaney Coutts placed 4th
  • Junior mixed doubles players Jack Beddington and Desiree Delisle brought home the big win, placing 1st at BAA

Honourable mention goes to:

  • Junior girls singles player Riley McKechnie (who played her first year of badminton and crushed it)
  • Junior girls doubles team of Emma LeBrasceur and Esha Gill (your coaches look forward to next season)
  • Junior girls doubles team Norah Gratto and Kelly Morejan (who had great spunk and dedication)
  • Junior boys doubles team Ty McQuillin and Jordan McDonald (who demonstrated great sportsmanship)
  • Boys singles player Josh Cuyler (who showed his versatility)

This was the first year for these player combinations and for some students, their first year playing badminton at all. It is an extraordinary accomplishment!

The KDSS Junior badminton team is showing it has some great years of play ahead and the coaches can’t wait to see what these players bring to the table next year.

The Senior badminton team competed in BAA, April 13, hosted at KDSS and convened by Andy Ferguson. The seniors also showcased their strength and yielded great results:

  • Senior boys singles player Tony Chen placed 4th
  • Senior girls singles player Ela Jones placed 3rd
  • Senior boys doubles team of Jared Houghton and Elijah Moore placed 4th
  • Senior girls doubles team of Mia Kensit and Pankti Shah placed 3rd
  • Senior mixed doubles team of Malcolm Lane and Hadley Pawlikowski placed 3rd

Honourable mention goes to:

  • Senior boys single player Charlie Hall-Elwood (who could be counted on to know the opposing team stats)
  • Senior boys doubles team of Myles Courtney and Chris McLarty (who battled it out and placed 5th)
  • Senior girls doubles team of Harleen Gill and Dana Daetwyler (who competed for 5th and smiled the whole time even after their coach sent them home for the day and had to call them back due to poor tracking on their coach’s part!)
  • Senior mixed doubles team of Thomas Harmsworth and Hannah Cassidy (who received a tough draw but never rolled over)

The coaches say goodbye to some Senior players this year but look forward to one more year with those remaining.

The Junior and Senior teams competed at CWOSSA - April 19, at the University of Waterloo for the Junior team, and April 20 for the Senior team.

Great games were played and, most importantly, great experiences were had.

KDSS looks forward to a solid 2024 season!
