Shame on municipality for shabby treatment of local service club, say residents
To the Editor:
June 3, I attended the Lions Garage Sale in Kincardine. The turn-out and donations were unbelievable, and as usual, the Kincardine Lions did a fabulous job setting up, tearing down and manning the crowds.
However I do feel that the venue was a little too small for the vastness of the sale. When I questioned why it wasn’t held on the arena floor at the Davidson Centre, I was appalled to find out that the Municipality of Kincardine was willing to let them host there but for an astronomical amount of money, which would not be feasible.
The unbelievable thing is that the money the Lions raise, with all of their events, positively impacts Kincardine and the surrounding communities in so many ways. They raised money to build the Splash Pad, Lions Park, and are raising funds for the proposed All-Wheel Park.
In my opinion, the municipality should have allowed the Lions to use the arena either for free or a very small fee. The Kincardine Legion was very gracious in allowing them to host the yard sale there and only required a small fee for clean-up. A huge thank you to the Legion for this.
The Garage Sale also helps with waste management, another issue that our municipality is facing. The sale keeps items out of our landfill which in the end, saves money and positively impacts the environment.
As a life-long resident of Kincardine and taxpayer, I feel that I should have some say in what happens in our community and, quite frankly, there have been a lot of decisions made by council and the municipality as a whole, that have bothered me immensely.
It is time that our municipality and council stop putting up roadblocks that negatively impact Kincardine’s growth, integrity and future.
In closing, I send a heartfelt thank you to all the Lions Club members for their hard work and dedication to our municipality. Your tireless efforts do not go unnoticed by the residents of this community.
