Goderich driver fails roadside test

(GODERICH, ON) – Huron County OPP officers have charged a 22-year-old Goderich man with an Over-80 offence following a traffic stop Sunday, Oct. 18.

Shortly before 11 p.m., officers received a call for assistance about a possible impaired driver who was travelling on Suncoast Drive in Goderich. A few minutes later, police spotted the suspect vehicle, a Honda Civic, travelling eastbound on Suncoast Drive.

A traffic stop was conducted and upon speaking with the driver, the officer noted he had been drinking alcohol. A roadside screening test was performed and the driver registered a fail. He was placed under arrest and was transported to the Huron OPP detachment for breath tests. He subsequently provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician; both samples registered over the legal limit.

As a result, 22-year-old Matthew ROUNDS of Goderich has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Over-80 Milligrams of Alcohol. He has been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich, Nov. 16. He also received an automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle has been impounded for seven days.

*THIS CHARGE HAS YET TO BE PROVEN IN COURT*
