For the love of the lake
To the Editor:
For the love of the lake, STOP golfing into it!
Too many people feel that they can use the lake as their personal driving range. It is not! When you intentionally hit golf balls into the lake, you are intentionally littering.
Golf balls are plastic pollution - plain and simple. Many people justify their actions by saying that they retrieve the balls. You cannot get them all. You don't. There are just too many out there, slowly breaking down into micro-plastics.
If you see someone, or know of someone, golfing into the lake, I would suggest trying to educate them that this is, in fact, polluting our lake and illegal. If they choose to continue, you can call the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources tipline at 1-877-847-7667 (1-877-TIPS-MNR).
The violation is called unlawful deposit on Crown Land. The ministry will take this seriously if you are willing to give your name. It took my report seriously.
You can also call the Municipality of Kincardine's bylaw officer at 1-226-910-1322, Ext. 0. Littering falls under the municipality's Public Nuisance Act.
Why not support our local golf courses and driving ranges or just enjoy the natural beauty of our area without degrading it?
Will you be part of the problem or part of the solution?
