The Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority (SVCA) and the Saugeen Valley Children’s Safety Village have formally signed an agreement to establish the Children’s Safety Village at Sulphur Spring Conservation Area. This agreement involves the use of the previous SVCA administrative centre as well as the resource centre.
“We’re extremely pleased with this partnership,” said SVCA chairman Luke Charbonneau “It will be an excellent addition to Sulphur Spring. We already teach thousands of children each year at the same location through our conservation education programs. Now, the Conservation Area will play host to thousands of children learning about safety. It’s a great complement to what is already happening there."
“We are equally thrilled with the partnership,” said Marilyn Rosner, president of the Children’s Safety Village. “Injuries are the number-one cause of death for children in Canada, the majority of which are considered preventable. The Children’s Safety Village will now help make this area the number one place for a child to grow up healthy and safe.
"The plan is to begin work Dec. 1, immediately after the Christmas in the Country event. We are planning to be up and running by September of 2016."
Both organizations have been working together over the past couple of years.
“We feel it’s a win-win situation for all involved,” said Charbonneau. “The old administration building has stood empty now for a few years. Making use of that building is certainly a benefit to us, but it also provides a great facility for the Children’s Safety Village."
As part of the agreement between the two parties, anyone wishing to rent the resource centre for family functions, etc., will now be required to contact the Children’s Safety Village at www.saugeenvalleycsv.ca and fill out the inquiry form.
