Flu shot now available only at local pharmacies

If you were looking for dates and times for the flu shot clinics at the Kincardine Community Medical Clinic, there are none.

Medical clinic manager Gerry Glover, chief executive officer of the Kincardine Family Health Team, said that no dedicated influenza clinics will be held this fall, as has been the procedure in previous years.

"Instead, we will assist in promoting our various health care partners within the community who will be offering dedicated flu shot clinics," said Glover.

You can get your flu shot at the following locations - bring your Ontario Health Care and wear a short-sleeved shirt:

McKechnie Pharmacy, 44 Queen Street, Kincardine

No dedicated flu shot clinic dates, but effective immediately, McKechnie's is accepting patients on a drop-in basis to get their flu shot. Patients just need to arrive with their Ontario Health Card.

Shoppers Drug Mart, 781 Broadway, Kincardine

While the Ontario Ministry of Health has published reports of the flu mist being available, there are also reports the supplier fell short on its commitment and as such, the Grey Bruce Health Unit currently does not have any supply of the flu mist that should be available. Currently, there is no established timeline for when the flu mist will be available locally from public health.

Locally, the medical clinic will be offering to patients, as part of scheduled appointments for children, youth and those with compromised conditions, the opportunity to acquire the influenza vaccination. Further, those patients aged 65 and over, are encouraged to contact the clinic to schedule an appointment with the Nurse Clinic to receive the vaccination. There is no fee for patients or the public seeking to acquire the publicly-funded influenza vaccination.

While the public is encouraged to attend the well-organized community flu shot clinics occurring at local pharmacies, the health unit urges parents with children under five years of age, to contact their doctor's office and arrange for their children to receive the vaccination from the physician’s office.
