Bruce Power team wins medals at FireFit championships
The Bruce Power team brought home hardware from the 2023 Canadian FireFit national and world championships, held at Lambton College in Sarnia, Sept. 13-17.
The event featured teams from all over Canada, as well as the United States, Poland and Germany, from colleges, professional full-time fire departments, volunteer departments, and industries.
The contest also featured the largest number of female competitors in its history, including the Bruce Power Emergency and Protective Services (EPS) team that placed third overall for best combined time. The team included Courtney Bell, Kayla Pate and Lauren Messer.
The Bruce Power Team, which also included Curtis Kealey, Ryan Lawrence (captain) and Daryl Sebesta, competed in individual, tech-two, and mixed relay events, finishing first in the industrial mixed relay.
“The entire team had a very good performance, including several personal-best times for both the men and women,” said Steve Shute, department manager, Bruce Power EPS Fire.
“The season was successful in all aspects with the team showing great pride and professionalism while representing Bruce Power at all previous events that led up the championship, including the regionals in Port Elgin,” said Terri Allen, section manager, EPS Fire.
