MicroAge Basics purchases MTC Computers in Kincardine
MicroAge Basics (Bluewater Office Equipment) of Goderich has purchased MTC Computers in Kincardine.
The deal was finalized Monday, said John Peet who owns the Goderich store along with Maureen Peet and Harold Peet.
But it will be business as usual at MTC.
"The owners of MicroAge Basics approached me last winter about the possibility of joining forces," said Mike Hackett, owner of MTC for the past 14 years. "They were looking for a way to expand their presence in Kincardine - they already deliver here daily - but they were not interested in butting heads with me."
"We share many common customers, and to be honest, it just made sense," Hackett said. "After owning the business for so long and putting in the hours I did, and basically being on-call 24/7, this opportunity offers the chance to continue operating as we are, only giving me a huge amount of back-up and support, and hopefully, the odd day off!"
John Peet agreed, saying that MicroAge Basics has hired Hackett, Beth Haynes and Rob Voyce to continue working at MTC.
"We're thrilled to have them with us," he said. "We have 40 employees and we understand that the small business model is changing rapidly. It's very challenging. This deal will be better for MTC and it's good for us."
He said Hackett will remain as manager of the Kincardine operation which will be enhanced with additional supplies and services. Over and above the office products and computer/technology products that MicroAge Basics offers, it also supplies and manages computer services, and installs and supports Toshiba business phone systems and Toshiba photocopier products.
The Peets also have a MicroAge Basics store in Wingham.
